Hi! My name is Elisabeth Cernadas
Trash Club Brooklyn was established in Greenpoint, in April 2024 by my eight-year-old son, my friend Thomas, and me. After witnessing the overwhelming amount of urban waste along the North Brooklyn waterfront and in the East River, we decided to form a group for both adults and kids dedicated to cleaning up trash in these areas to prevent pollution from reaching the river and the Atlantic Ocean. Since then, we've welcomed many incredible New Yorkers of all ages to participate in cleanups and sustainability events. We've collaborated on a kids' book exchange, a bench beautification project, a post-Halloween HallowClean Up, and have taught elementary school students in Brooklyn about urban micro trash pollution, plastic sorting, and recycling. In August, we proudly received our first grant from The Sanitation Foundation, aiming to demonstrate how fun and easy it is to care for the earth while enhancing our positive impact on its health and that of its inhabitants.

About
Education
Through in-school presentations and field trip collaborations, we provide engaging educational programs on urban waste and its impact on local and global ecosystems. Our main goal is to educate young people on how to identify, capture, sort, reduce, recycle, and reuse the thousands of tons of waste generated by New Yorkers daily. We aim to empower individuals with the understanding of the considerable positive difference each person can make for the environment.
